Cool Painting Ideas…and of Course, Wine!

These are the days for creativity! And a lot of creatives sip a great glass of wine as they work simply because it adds to the ambiance. Awesome that it’s enjoyable too! Do you have some project ideas you’d like to get started or finished? One of the best and most fun activities is to have an idea for an awesome painting or drawing and then bringing it into actualization. So why not have fun with it, by pairing your projects with a neat sipping experience. There is SO much reward that comes from completing an art piece and, as many of you wanna-be-sommelier’s know… you don’t have to be in a classroom to have your own little paint and sip party. LOL!

You can gain confidence in your painting skills, right from home and the paintings will end up being a wonderful conversation piece at brunch and dinner time, once the covid quarantine is over. Tip: YouTube has a bunch of instructional videos. Plus, when dinner parties are no longer a thing of the past, you’ll know just the right type of wine to serve with dinner. So, let’s get started!

Here are a few neat ideas you could implement in your time at home, whether you paint with acrylics, oils, do watercolor or colored pencils…or just pretend, so you can uncork another type of wine to try. LOL! Seriously though, what’s really cool, is mixing media!  There are a few rules in doing this (wine is for drinking) to make your work archival but once you learn what the rules are it’s just that much more fun!

As the skies become clearer our sunsets and sunrises are going to become more and more colorful, you might find inspiration in hues of pink! Can you say……Merlot Blush!?! The painting above is a pretty easy piece, that you could get done in a few hours – but it’s not about setting the timer. It’s that fun, painterly type of artwork that you can add your own ideas to and won’t have to be overly concerned with fine detail – AND it’s still really beautiful. Try it in acrylics.

Here’s a cheerful watercolor idea! Watercolor is fantastic because there are different techniques you can use, like wet on wet paper or wet on dry paper. There’s a certain storybook feeling you get when you look at a watercolor painting. And, it’s amazing the detail you can get using a mixed media approach with colored pencils as a final touch. I’m not sure why, but this one has me thinking about our Chardonnay Viognier – White Wine Blend. What do you think?

Here’s something if you’d like to try getting detailed. Get excited about those incredible spring walks along a flowing stream, full of birdlife and with all sorts of different flowers. You don’t have to stick to copying from just one painting. Get some tracing paper and add in anything you want! The bricks and the maple tree just scream RED WINE BLEND…I gotta say!

This final one has gotta be a Whai Kula moment. LOL! For those who like a little more whimsey, it’s a piece with great ideas. Perhaps it would pair well with the Nui Awa port… Hmmmm – on the fence about that. I guess the point is…..try a new medium. If you’ve never worked in watercolor, give it a whirl. Oil paintings are fun too, just know that without certain additives to the paint (not wine), you’ll be waiting weeks before you can add another layer. Have fun with it! Try some new paint. Try a new wine!….there’s nothing more relaxing than doing an art piece you’re really into with one of your favorite beverages!
